How do I save a place on rec’d?

Using the + button to categorise places (Want to Go, Rec'd, Liked, Disliked) and add them to lists.

💡

Quick Answer: Tap the + button on any venue card, choose a category (Want to Go, Rec'd, Liked, or Disliked), add it to a list, and tap "Done".

Overview

Saving places is how you build your personal food map on rec'd. Every time you save somewhere, you'll categorise it based on your experience — whether it's a spot you're dying to try or somewhere you've already been and loved. You can also organise saves into lists to keep everything tidy.

Saving takes about 5 seconds.

Step-by-step instructions

Step 1: Open the venue card

Find a restaurant through search, the Explore tab, a creator's profile, or the map. Tap on it to open the full venue card.

The venue card shows you everything about the restaurant at a glance — cuisine tags, opening hours, address, photos, and who's recommended it.

Step 2: Tap the + button

In the top-right corner of the venue card, tap the + button. This opens the "Save this spot!" screen, which slides up from the bottom.

Step 3: Choose a category

The first thing you'll see is four category badges. Tap the one that best describes your relationship with this place:

Category
When to use it
🔵 Want to Go
You haven't been yet, but it's on your radar
🌈 Rec'd
You've been and you'd actively recommend it to others — this is your stamp of approval
👍 Liked
You've been and enjoyed it, but it's not a top recommendation
👎 Disliked
You've been and it wasn't for you

These categories help rec'd understand your taste and improve your recommendations over time. They also let your followers and friends see which places you genuinely rate.

Step 4: Add to a list

Below the categories, you'll see the "Add To List" section. This shows your existing lists and a "Create New List" option.

To add to an existing list: Tap the list you want to add the restaurant to. You can add a place to multiple lists if you like.

To create a new list: Tap "Create New List", give it a name (e.g., "Birthday dinner options", "Best steak in London"), and the restaurant will be added to it.

Step 5: Tap "Done"

Once you've chosen a category and optionally added the place to a list, tap "Done" at the bottom of the screen. The restaurant is now saved to your profile.

What happens when you save a place?

  • It appears on your profile — Anyone visiting your profile can see your saves (depending on your privacy settings)
  • It improves your recommendations — rec'd uses your saves to learn what you like and surface similar places
  • It shows on your map — Saved places appear as pins on your personal map
  • It contributes to the community — When you Rec'd or Like a place, it helps others discover it too

Understanding the categories

It's worth thinking about the difference between Rec'd and Liked:

Rec'd is your strongest endorsement. These are the places you'd tell a friend about unprompted — your go-tos, the spots that never disappoint. When someone visits your profile, your Rec'd places carry real weight.

Liked is positive but more measured. You had a good time, the food was solid, but it's not somewhere you'd shout about. It still helps rec'd understand your taste, and it still counts as a positive signal.

Disliked isn't wasted either. Telling rec'd what you didn't enjoy helps us avoid recommending similar places in the future.

Organising your lists

Lists are completely flexible — you can organise them however makes sense to you. Some ideas:

  • By occasion — "Date night", "With the parents", "Group dinners"
  • By area — "East London", "Soho favourites", "South of the river"
  • By cuisine — "Best sushi", "Italian spots", "Taco runs"
  • By mood — "Quick lunch", "Long boozy dinner", "Coffee and cake"
  • Practical — "Tried and tested", "To try this month", "Good for working from"

You can edit, rename, or delete lists at any time from your profile.

Common issues

Problem: "I saved a place but forgot to add it to a list" Solution: Go to your profile, find the restaurant in your saves, tap on it, then tap the + button again. The save screen will reopen and you can add it to a list without changing your category.

Problem: "I want to change my category (e.g., from Want to Go to Rec'd after visiting)" Solution: Open the venue card and tap the + button again. Select your new category and it will update. This is a natural part of using rec'd — save a place as Want to Go, visit it, then come back and change it to Rec'd or Liked.

Problem: "I accidentally saved a place and want to remove it" Solution: Open the venue card, tap the + button, deselect the category, and tap "Done". The place will be removed from your saves.

Problem: "I can't find a place I saved" Solution: Go to Profile → Saved. You can browse by list or search within your saves. If you saved it without adding it to a list, check your general saves.

Problem: "Can other people see what I've disliked?" Solution: Your Disliked saves are private by default. Only your Rec'd and Liked places are visible to others on your profile.
