Quick Answer: rec'd is a social restaurant and venue discovery app where you save places in four categories (rec'd, Liked, Want to Go, Not a Fan), follow food creators, and explore your city through a personalised map.
What is rec'd?
rec'd is a social discovery app built for people who love eating out. It helps you save, organise, and share the restaurants, cafes, bars, and venues you care about, all in one place.
Think of it as your personal food map, powered by the people you actually trust.
How it works
At its core, rec'd is built around four save states. Every time you save a venue, you categorise it based on your experience:
Save State | What it means |
π rec'd | You've been and you'd actively recommend it to others. This is your stamp of approval. |
π Liked | You've been and enjoyed it, but it's not a top pick. |
π΅ Want to Go | You haven't been yet, but it's on your radar. |
π Not a Fan | You've been and it wasn't for you. |
These saves appear as colour-coded pins on your personal map and on your profile, so your friends and followers can see what you genuinely rate.
The social layer
rec'd isn't just about your saves. You can follow friends, food creators, and anyone whose taste you trust. When someone you follow saves a place, it appears on your map and in your feed.
You can also:
- Browse other people's profiles to see their saves, filtered by category
- Explore curated lists like "Pubs in the Sun" or "Cheap Eats"
- See who saved what on any venue card, with a breakdown of how they rated it
- Follow activity in your feed (new saves, new lists, new follows)
Lists
Lists let you group venues however you like: by occasion, area, cuisine, or mood. You can create your own, add collaborators, and save lists made by other people. Lists can also be plotted directly onto the map for easy exploring.
Menus and dish recommendations
Some venues on rec'd have full menus pulled through, so you can browse dishes and prices before you visit. When creator content has been imported, you'll also see dish recommendations extracted from their videos, helping you know exactly what to order.
The map
The map is your home screen. Every pin tells a story: blue pins are places you want to try, pink pins are places you've liked or rec'd, and profile picture pins show where people you follow have saved. You can filter the map by save type, by specific people, or by list.
Who is rec'd for?
rec'd is for anyone who loves eating out and wants a better way to keep track of places. Whether you're a regular at your local or always hunting for somewhere new, rec'd gives you a single place to save, organise, and discover restaurants through people you trust rather than anonymous reviews.
