How can we help? 👋

v1.2.0 — rec'd is here

The first public release of rec'd. Here's everything that's in the app on day one.

rec'd 1.2.0 is our first public release. Everything below has been built from scratch and is live in the app today. This post is the foundation for all future changelogs — every update from here will be logged here so you always know what's new.

🗺️ The Map

The map is the home of rec'd. When you open the app, you land here.

Color-coded save pins make it immediately obvious what you and your network think of any place at a glance:

  • 🟣 rec'd — you loved it
  • 🩷 Liked — you enjoyed it
  • 🔵 Want to Go — on your radar
  • Not a Fan — didn't work for you
  • Pins showing profile pictures indicate places saved by people you follow

The bottom bar shows your active view context — how many places are on the map and which filter is active. Tap the filter icon to open Map Layers.

📍 Saving Places

You can save any venue in two ways:

  1. Quick save from the map — tap a pin, then tap Save on the preview card. A menu appears with all four save options. The pin updates its colour and icon on the map immediately.
  1. Save from the venue card — open any venue and use the Save button at the top of the card. You can also change your existing save status at any time via the Change button.

🏠 Venue Cards

Tap any pin or search result to open a venue card. Each card has three tabs:

Overview

  • Photo carousel at the top
  • Map, Call, and Website action buttons
  • A short description of the venue
  • A saves breakdown bar showing the split of rec'd / Liked / Want to Go from all users, plus an expandable list of which people you follow have saved it and how
  • A Featured In section showing which curated lists include this venue
  • Collapsible opening times with today's hours shown upfront
  • Place info: address, phone number, website

Menu

  • Where available, rec'd pulls the venue's menu and displays it by section
  • Two sub-tabs: Restaurant Menu and Menu with Pricing Examples
  • A Recommend a dish button lets you highlight your favourite item — your recommendation is shown under the dish for other users to see

Similar

  • A list of similar venues based on cuisine and vibe, each tappable to open their venue card

Venue cards can also be shared via the share icon in the top corner — this generates a share.recd.co link that can be sent via any app.

🎛️ Map Layers

Tap the filter icon in the bottom bar to open Map Layers. This controls exactly what you see on the map.

My saves — toggle your own saved places on or off. Filter by save type: All, rec'd, Liked, Want to Go, Not a Fan.

Network — toggle places saved by people you follow. Filter by:

  • Individual people (select one person to see only their saves)
  • Save type (rec'd, Liked, Want to Go)
  • View mode: Layer on mine (show network saves alongside yours) or Show only (show only network saves)

A live count button at the bottom shows how many places match your current settings before you apply.

Lists — plot any of your saved lists directly on the map to see all its venues at once.

Tap Reset in the top right to clear all filters and return to the default view.

🔍 Search

Tap the search bar at the top of the map to open search. You can search for:

  • Places — by name, cuisine, neighbourhood, or vibe
  • People — find users and creators by name or username
  • Lists — find curated lists by title or topic

Search also surfaces quick-access filter chips for Dietary (Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free), Occasion (Alfresco, Bottomless, Celebration, Late), and Cuisine type, as well as a Lists to Explore carousel for inspiration when you're not sure what to search for.

Results are grouped by type (Places, People, Lists) with a tab bar to filter.

🧭 Explore

The Explore tab has two feeds:

rec'd tab — curated content from the rec'd team and community:

  • Featured and editorial lists (e.g. "Favourite Pubs + Bars", "Pubs with Great Food")
  • Newly Opened venues
  • Taste Buds — suggested accounts to follow based on similar taste

Following tab — a live activity feed from everyone you follow. See when someone saves a new place, creates or updates a list, or follows a new account. Filter the feed by activity type: All, rec'd, Lists, Follows. You can save a list directly from the feed with a single tap.

📋 Lists

Lists are how you organise and share your saves. From your profile you can:

  • View My Lists (lists you've created) and Saved Lists (lists you've saved from others)
  • Tap + New list to create one. You can add a name, description, cover photo, toggle public or private, add collaborators, and add places during creation or at any time after
  • Reorder places within a list using drag handles
  • Add a venue to any existing list directly from the venue card via the + List button

Lists created by other users can be saved from their profile, from the Explore tab, or from any venue's Featured In section.

👤 Profiles

Your profile shows your name, username, city, follower and following counts, total saves broken down by type (rec'd, Liked, Not a Fan, Want to Go), and three tabs:

  • Lists — My Lists and Saved Lists
  • Places — your saves filtered by save type
  • Imports — social media imports (see below)

Top right icons give access to share your profile, notifications, and settings.

Other users' profiles show the same save breakdown and tabs, plus Instagram and TikTok follower counts where connected. You can follow or unfollow directly from their profile.

📲 Social Imports

Import places you've saved or spotted on social media directly into rec'd. The Imports tab on your profile stores everything you've brought in. A second walkthrough video covering the full import flow is coming shortly.

⚙️ Settings

Access settings from the gear icon on your profile. From here you can:

  • Edit your username, city, bio, Instagram, and TikTok
  • Invite Friends to rec'd
  • Access the Help centre
  • Read the Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions
  • Manage Device Permissions
  • Sign Out
  • Delete Account

🔔 Notifications

Notifications are live. The bell icon on your profile takes you to your notifications inbox.

That's everything in 1.2.0. Future updates will be logged here as we ship them.
